What is a 5-Day Club? +
For five consecutive days, one hour each day, children gather to hear Bible stories, sing songs, learn Bible verses, and listen to a missionary story as the gospel is clearly presented. Another exciting part of the club is the contest! The children receive prizes for attendance, bringing friends, memorizing verses, and completing Mailbox Club lessons.
What would be my main responsibilities as a Summer Missionary? +
Summer Missionaries are first and foremost teachers. You will have direct personal contact with up to 400 children during a full summer with us. We will provide training to prepare you to teach exciting Bible lessons and missionary stories, to be able to lead singing, teach a memory verse, and have fun games and review times.
How would I spend a normal day? +
As a Summer Missionary you would teach clubs each day in up to four different locations. Clubs will usually be held in the mornings and afternoons, with the occasional evening club. The materials you teach would be the same at all club locations. You will have free time most evenings; we would encourage you to spend some evenings with your host family and participate in their activities, as well as review your lessons for the next day.
Where would I teach and how would I travel from club to club? +
The clubs and travel are pre-arranged by CEF with a club coordinator in each area. You will have up to four clubs and a location for lunch already arranged for you. A host family in the area will billet you for the week you are there.
Would I do the same thing every day of the week? +
Monday to Friday would be similar but with different stories each day of the week. Thursday is the day to confirm all your next week’s club locations (travel, club invitations, club times, etc.). Saturday will be your moving day. You will travel to your new billet and get settled in. Sunday will be spent with the host family, possibly taking an assigned responsibility in their church program. On the long weekend in August, you will be allowed to go home. Other than that, we expect you to remain in your assigned area for the weekend. If club advertising needs to be done for any club, you would spend the afternoon doing that. Sunday is also the day to get well prepared mentally, spiritually, and physically for the next week of clubs.
Would I be on my own or would I have a partner? +
In most circumstances, we try to pair up our missionaries especially if they are new to CEF. However, with the many variables each summer regarding club locations, number of missionaries etc. this isn’t always possible, and cannot be guaranteed. During some weeks, you may have a partner, though teach separate clubs alone. Very rarely will we send a missionary alone when we know there will be many children in attendance, such as a VBS. If, in the case, you are assigned rural clubs, you could be teaching in one town for the week while your partner is in another town. Once that week comes to a close, you may reunite with your partner over the weekend as you travel to your next destination.
What is the remuneration for the summer? +
Child Evangelism Fellowship of Saskatchewan/Alberta will pay each worker an honorarium of $100.00 for both weeks of training and $50.00 per week for each week they teach clubs. We also have a Summer Missionary Support Program in which each Summer Missionary can, through fund-raising from family, friends, and their local church, raise up to an additional $575.00 support per week they teach and also an additional $1,150.00 for attending both weeks of training. By doing this, each worker could earn up to $5,000.00 teaching 6 weeks of clubs and attending both weeks of training. All funds paid to the Summer Missionary include vacation pay. All support raised must be received by the CEF office by August 25th. Your final paycheck will be written five days after your last working day with all personal support raised included, to the maximum of $5,000.00.
